Red Bull Curates — Red Bull Canvas Cooler
SCOPE
Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project pairs up-and-coming artists with local venue owners to create custom and functional pieces of art. Hand-picked artists are given the challenge of transforming a blank canvas-wrapped Red Bull cooler into an inspired work of art. The finished pieces are unveiled to the public in a one-night only exhibition, where gallery patrons and a panel of judges vote for their favorite pieces, awarding an artist to create a mural at an International Art Festival.
PROJECT
MedAsia’s interior is a bridge between two worlds; the contemporary mediterranean and asian, and to tie this piece in, I based it on the concept of intricacy. The main influence behind the piece is the art of juxtaposing Japanese, Thai, Chinese and Mediterranean cultures. The piece tells a story which is set in an unspecified future during a monstrosity war which takes place in Japan.
Through this collaboration, I wanted to express the importance of craftsmanship which I feel is somewhat being lost in this day and age where technology is taking over most aspects of life. The process through which I create my work is a commitment to patience and a rebellion against the immediacy that surrounds us.
