With a site in a reinvigorated urban neighborhood, there is a challenge to both respect the urban context of the environment as well as to address a dense program. Located on Freret Street, this area in Uptown New Orleans is the site of economic growth and rejuvenation. This building and program helps to encourage new demographics and visitors to the area.

Inspired by Latin American fabrics, I analyzed the directional and functional orientation of the Freret area. This led to an investigation into the “Urban Weave.” The weave flows through the building, informing orientation, circulation, and form. At the same time the bulding responds directly to the street opening to the corner and creating a cultural hub at the corner of Freret and Soniat.
