Off The Track- US Track and Field Trials

The 2016 Olympic Track and Field had 20+ photographers standing at the finish line. Most had the same type camera, lenses and shot inches from each other. I chose a different path. Reaching out to athletes via Twitter and Instagram, I straight up asked them, "Do you want to be a part of this project I feel should exist" I got a lot of no replies but the I was thrilled with those who replied and were gracious enough to give me access to one of the most important week of their lives.
Charles Jock (Nike) - First time Olympian in the 800m placed third. I caught up with him two days after his race at Glenwood, a local spot for amazing grub.(So gooood!) CJ told me about how he actually rode his bike to and from the track for each round of the 800 only to find that after the semi-final, someone had roped their lock through his bike. The girl showed up right before it was cut. #bluecollordude I mean look at that impromptu portrait of him in front of the 7/11. Dope, right?!
Russ and Kara Winger throw stuff. Like really far. Kara is the American Record holder in the Javelin. After practice, they let me ride with them to the Willamette River. While Russ was putting on a clinic on how to be a boss at fly fishing, Kara took advantage of the cool water and took and ice bath. Kara went on to finish third and qualify for another Olympic Games.
