The artist decided to look at two underground movements: Brut Art and Folk Art.
Brut Art is about taking something what is not considered to be art and using it in an artistic way.
Folk Art was never considered art, even though it represents a particular ethnic group or culture.
The artist created several patterns that were inspired by the culture and country that she grew up in. The reason for doing so is perhaps the lack of acknowledgment and consideration for that particular culture. She incorporated the patterns with everyday encounters that are captured in a series of photographs, to give the viewer a sense of disbelief, wonder and maybe madness.
The patterns were inspired by the patterns found on Romanian
traditional garments.
The geometric shapes within the pattern refer to a more contemporary time.
Both collections of pictures and patterns are assembled in a handmade booklet.
The container carries on the inspiration taken from the traditional garments. The container is simply a cotton bag like thing that is marked with a red geometric motif and the initials of the artist, embroidered with red thread.
