Place Identity: Stoke-on-Trent Railway Station

The Challenge
To choose a location within Stoke-on-Trent and create a print-based publication which portrays the identity of the place. This is to be informed through a careful and considerate level of research to determine what makes the place unique. Further influencing the format and style of the final piece to communicate the identity.

My Response
Through constant analysis of the Stoke-on-Trent railway station I discovered what makes the station unique is the movement of people within it. I produced a 32 page booklet titled 'Movement and Behaviours of people within Stoke-on-Trent railway station'. It features 10 unique sections, each documenting a different observation I had discovered during my research. These 10 sections form the stages of movement, which compose the content of the piece. The aim of the piece was to create a simple yet highly technical editorial outcome which experimented with paper, print and a delicate placement of type to communicate each stage of movement. Documented below are a series of spreads from the final piece.
