CHEERS Cover Art Collection
CHEERS July Issue 2011
Finished artwork. I came up with the idea of placing photos of food and cakes on a plate instead of merely using a single photo of a dish for the cover, which, I think, could have been a little boring. I was also the main photographer for the article and went to all the shops along with a writer. The main concept is "Some moments are just too good to pass up!.  This cover was one of the most popular ones among CHEERS readers and is also my own favourite.
Background.
All digital photographs were photoshoped and modified to look like polaroids.
These were also photoshoped and used as parts.
CHEERS June Issue 2011
Finished artwork. The illustration depicts a scene from a charity flee market which CHEERS magazine was organizing to raise a fund for victims of 3.11 tsunami and earthquake in Japan.
Draft free hand drawing (left) and colouring process on a separate layer (right).
Complete illustration (left) and a close up shot (right).
CHEERS May Issue 2011
Finished artwork. This work has a very special meaning to me as I made the logo as a symbol of support and sympathy. It was specificly created for a charity event "Stand Up for Japan -KIZUNA-, which aimed to raise a fund for Japan's catastrophic earthquake that took place on 11 March 2011. The cover itself implies the national flag of Japan (hino-maru).
The logo. The main concept of this logo is "Put your hearts together" and the big heart  represents the globe with Japan on one side, and Australia on the other side.

CHEERS March Issue 2011
Finished artwork. The illustration depicts an overweight man who is wedged inside a huge hamburger. I came up with this idea because the main feature of the month was "Beat Obesity!! A guide to healthy diet". This was also one of the popular ones on which I reveived a high rate of positive feedback.
Draft free hand drawing (left) and a close up shot (right).
Colouring process.
Individual illustration of the man.
CHEERS February Issue 2011
Finished artwork. I used a bit of surrealistic approach to draw this illustration and it was done in accordance with the main feature of the month which covered "a guide to successful chocolate making for the Valentine's Day".
Draft free hand drawing (left), colouring process (right).
Close up shots of the parts. They consist of small imaginary flowers and animals.
CHEERS January Issue 2011
Finished artwork. To celebrate the new year, I took the opportunity to add an essence of the Earthly Branch of the year, which was Rabbit.
Background (left) and complete illustration with no texts (right).
Individual illustrations.Japanese paper umbrella (left) and Japanese flower pattern (right).
Individual illustration of the kimono lady drinking a shot of warm sake.
CHEERS November Issue 2010
Finished artwork. I brought the idea of using lollies and candies on the cover to make a connection with the feature article of the month which focused on sweets in supermarkets.
The image on the left is the initial draft I made before shooting a photograph on the right.
