Factors of Enlightenment
This series of paintings explores the seven factors of enlightenment derived from Buddhist spirituality and philosophy: mindfulness, investigation into the universal law of nature,energy, joy, tranquility, concentration, and equanimity. The paintings examine the relationship between spirituality, psychology, symbolism, color theory, and human nature. Through the manipulation and pure physicality of the paint, I am accentuating how inward focus generates a change beyond our physical and conscious selves. The range from smaller to larger scale represents the progression of the factors building upon one another to finally reach enlightenment, just as one must gradually take small steps to achieve something greater.
