Kōkai: A Japanese-American Bistro Restaurant

Project Concept

The bistro restaurant is inspired by Japan’s modes of transportation: trains, cars, buses, bicycles and foot. The concept revolves on the art of travelling and it is best translated in a scenario of a tourist exploring the beauty of Japan – through a showcase of different transportation modes with respective destinations to conquer. Thus, the name Kōkai was formed which means “voyage” in English. Kōkai is a guest-friendly eatery that translates into a travel guide: engaging its customers to set an expedition on the different cities of Japan while providing them not only with good food, but also with bits of culture throughout their stay.

Kōkai is a 100-seater proposed restaurant to be established in Bonifacio Global Center, Taguig.
Perspectives
Upon entering the restaurant, the customers will be directed to the cities of Japan through Japan’s train map as the dining hall’s flooring. Each table is presented as a specific city in Japan. The dining ambiance features the use of cool white lighting from customized pendant lights that look like handrails of a train. One wall is accented with a décor of mounted wheels (bicycle, train, bus, boat) that depicts another transportation mode.

The bistro restaurant will cater to a target market that consists of newlyweds, starting families, and people in their late 20s and early 30s. It offers gourmet foods of an American-Japan fusion cuisine.
