STEPPING INTO SOUND: MOVING FROM LEEDS STUDENT RADIO INTO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY
For my Camera and editing module of my New Media degree at the University of Leeds, myself and two others were tasked with creating a mini documentary to test our skills in recording both video and audio as well as editing using industry standard software. We all worked as a group and shared in all aspects of the film.
We decided to base our short on Leeds student radio and how it prepares students for working in the music industry. We also interviewed Robbie Russell, a Leeds University and Leeds Student Radio Alumni, who, in collaboration with Xyrenn Maddox a student at Leeds Beckett, founded Youth Club Sounds - A record label and live events company specialising in the futurebeats and soulection type music. The pair have already hosted international talent in the genre as well as securing a monthly night at one of Leeds' most popular venues, all after meeting and gaining experience through a weekly show at Leeds Student Radio.
