The Problem
Children are becoming more disconnected from the real world and socially-reclused because of their increased use of technology.

Target Audience
Parents
Children aged 9 - 12 years old

The Message
We painted a clear picture of a child, pushing their parent away because the child is too busy using his/her gadget. This would send both children and parents alike, a painful reminder of how the use of technology can create disconnection within the family.

The Idea
We created a series of poster advertisements that depict a few what-if scenarios where children become over-reliant on technology to the point where family is neglected. We chose these three common scenarios (”A Day at the Carnival”, “Christmas at Home”, and “The Child’s Birthday”) because they are easily relatable all over the world. These scenarios portray the sense of irony in children becoming too dependable on their gadgets when they ought to be excited.

The Execution
The poster advertisements incorporated visual elements to mimic a child’s storybook in order to further reiterate the irony of the scenarios. Inspired by Quentin Blake’s illustration style, we created watercolour illustrations to accompany the copy. Quentin Blake’s illustration style is well-known among both adults and children for their appearances in Roald Dahl’s books - whose stories are also well-loved by people of all ages.
