Evidence of Thought and Scratches for Ideas that May or May Not Have Happened on the Night of December 20, 1980 and Beyond
Much of design is evidence. This is hand-drawn evidence of my thinking and of the relationship of my hand to my eye and in turn, to paper, and sometimes to further exploration as a project.

I am a collector. I like beginnings. I love ink. I am obsessed with words, taking notes, and the process of remembering that takes place when something outside my own mind strikes me enough to write it down and keep it for later. My sketchbooks are like shelves where writers can publish half-manuscripts, galleries where artists show half-finished work, or kitchens where nothing but tapas are served constantly. Some ideas make the final cut. Others do not. The images below are representative samples from my sketch/idea books over the years. Ideation Logues. Evidentiary Credentials. Call them what you like. I just call them sketchbooks.

The funnest part about them is to put them in a box for a few years, forget about them, and come back to them in time. I never know what I will find!
