Please welcome an unique embroidered Sunbrella® fabric as a proposal for Miami Design District Building shade! Explore new ways of urban shading with cross-stitched and intertwined textile stripe. Our idea was to potentially utilize recycled stripes of Sunbrella® fabrics that can be cut into ~80cm wide stripes and sewn together
The primary consideration for this design was a creation of an artful, colorful shade design befitting the eclectic nature of the planned Miami Design District.

Out concept was inspired by handcrafted embroidery and we used Sunbrella® fabric to create endless, flexible and patterns. Expandable form of shading allows different applications: as a sunshade, rain protection (denser stripes) and invites pedestrians to enter Paseo Ponti. Its longitudinal nature will connect and develop existing pedestrian paths.
Mesh of stiff steel ropes supported by self-supporting V-shaped columns enable interweaving of textile stripes.
Columns will be placed along the Paseo, parallel to building walls and beside buildings’ columns. Above allows uninterrupted access to the shops and galleries and unblocked view of tenant storefronts. Design evolves from the South entry of pedestrian spine, where buildings are lower (pedestrian need more shade and intimacy) and shade is narrow. In this area embroidery is denser, gently develops to larger pattern, then it starts to be mixed with interlaced stripes of fabric. On the Plaza - whereas lots of trees are located - design bypasses tree trunks and add to natural tree shade.
