ISTD: Putting on a Fresh Face

The brief was to refresh the visual identity of the society. As well as design one main logo for the society I created a series/ variations of the logo. The reason behind the three variations of the main logo is because ISTD is a society. The society consists of male and female graduates, student audience and the main male founders. The logos are not intentionally splitting the society up into factions; but taken into account there's more than one audience, many different people that are different in sex and occupation which is part of ISTD. With the variations are wanted each member to be individual or unique and have a say in creativity and typography in the International Society of typographic designers.

The three variations of the logos consist of male, female and student audience. Each represented by the unique shape and colour. The shape within the logo is overlapped, the reason behind this is because it gives a sense of dimension and also with my research has an abstract view of thicknesses, depth (from the colour) and weight which can be represented with type which also different in thickness and weight. The other main reason is the variation in colour when the shape is overlapped, the more times you overlap a shape with the same colour variations of that colour will appear eg a spectrum of colour this brings depth to the logo and makes it eye catching and appealing.
