Last night I was sleeping
I dreamt - marvelous error!
that I had a beehive
here inside my heart.
And the golden bees were
making white combs
and sweet honey
from my old failures.

Moved by necessity, the Osmia Avosetta is a species of bee that crafts small nests by layering select petals between mud. In this way a form is built, one that combines delicate surfaces, vibrant color and structural strength.
Overall my body of work is inspired by the sharp and often surprising contrasts that are found within these inspirational parcels of nature. My pieces vary in form, some are explorations of the outside texture, color and shape of the nests themselves, while others are my imaginings of what cross sections might reveal. The process involves layering, multiples of organic forms, and incorporating bright swaths of colour throughout each piece of jewellery.
Abstracted, the pieces act as metaphors for protection and strength. My intent is to create wearable art, using textile and metal to weave together elements of protection and beauty, as seamlessly as the bees do.
