SPACE FOR CHANCE
Series of drypoint prints / some drawings
This work was realised over the past year and reflects my interest in the notions of time, memory, the multifaceted nature of reality and the everyday. The visuals for the series of drypoint prints that I titled ‘Space for chance’ were inspired by ‘My Century’ (1999) - a novel by a contemporary German author Günter Grass.

Ninety-nine monologues. Each given the title of a year from 1900 to 1999. The speakers are children, students, soldiers, working class women, politicians, artists and journalists amongst others. They tell the stories of their lives, fleeting memories, moments of their childhood. Some stories are told in retrospect whilst others are spoken in preset tense, but almost all are personal, made up of a collage of events and experiences.
I wanted to create almost anonymous memories, resembling a cacophony of thoughts or a momentary glance. Those memories are simultaneously mine and alien reflections. They are open to interpretation.
