Located at Winlaton Mill the new Centre will provide a space for innovative interpretation of the area’s history and heritage as well as a cafe and an delightful environment to experience the atmosphere of he park from.
_ARCHITECTURE
Influenced by the wheel that was the driving force of the industrial revolution, visitors are able to flow through the Heritage Centre into the heart of the park.
_EXHIBITION
The story of the park is presented through a timeline, illustrating the rich historical context that the Centre sits within. This space is adaptable with mobile exhibition units.
_CAFE
A space for everyone to enjoy. If visitors are just walking through the park or at the Centre for the day, it is a great space to eat whilst admiring the beautiful surrouding views.
_COURTYARD
The link between inside and outside spaces. The courtyard, facing south, is the ideal place for groups and families to meet during the summer and has a covered walkway for those rainy days.
The Land of Oak and Iron Heritage Centre is located in Derwenthaugh Country Park. Set in the historically rich Winlaton Mill area it sits within is rich in industrial heritage, woodland and vegitation for vast amounts of wildlife.

The location is the central node to the park, the centre will adopt this ideology and allow for people to enjoy it with ease. Running parellel to the site is the Coast-to-Coast route and the Derwent Walk. These are just two of the points of interest that make the location for this site so ideal.
The exhibition space within the proposed Haritage Centre shall include a histroical timeline of DerwentHaugh Country Park, illustrating how it has changed over the centuries. In conjunction with the current Sculpture trail, a proposed Hisoric Trail would lead from the exhibition space around the Park covering ruins from the Crowley ironworks to the houses of old Winlaton Mill.
