JOHN III SOBIESKI - KING OF POLAND

John III Sobieski - King of Poland

The interactive installation allowed the visitors to embody the illustrated figure of John III Sobieski, King of Poland, who ruled in the 17th century. The choice of the character wasn't casual. The exhibition, in fact, took place at the King's residence - the Museum of King John III's Palace at Wilanów. Thanks to the use of a video camera integrated with the appropriate software the character repeated the visitor's moves, blinks or mouth movements. Other actions were eliminated in order to ensure the fluidity in the functioning of the installation. The extent of possibilities turned out to be enough and the visitors, irrespective of their age, eagerly engaged in the interaction.
Promoting history in an accessible, innovative way, with the use of modern, attractive tools, was particularly interesting for children, who could become the king of Poland for a while. Stepping into the shoes of a historical figure created the possibility of overcoming the barrier between the historic and the today's world. The exhibition lasted two weeks and was visited by over 4,500 people in total, including 662 on the opening day.
