Milwaukee Public Library
Wizard of Oz Campaign
September 2010
Client: Milwaukee Public Library (Student Project)

The challenge was to use a popular children's book to promote reading at the library. People read books for many reasons. I was inspired by the journey of the companions in the Wizard of Oz and wanted to relate their individual journeys to reasons for reading at the library. The campaign also had to include an environmental component. I decided to turn the MPL building into the Emerald City, a place full of enchantment and the final destination where the companions find what they are looking for.
Environmental Campaign
The historic Milwaukee Public Library building transforms beautifully into the Emerald City. Ideally the building would be painted, but it could also be turned green with the use of green lights. The "yellow brick road" are opening lines from famous books and would lead all around the block up to the stairs which would be painted solid yellow. All the garden beds around the MPL would be filled with poppies to further enhance the experience of the Wizard of Oz journey.
