Three of Montenegro’s Must-See Destinations

Outside of his commitments as a private equity executive, Thomas P. Ivanyi enjoys traveling around the world with his wife. Thomas P. Ivanyi and his wife have visited a number of countries in Europe and other parts of the world, including Montenegro, a small but beautiful country in the Balkans. Below are some of Montenegro’s must-see destinations:

1. Kotor: A UNESCO town, Kotor is a charming and historic community with an interesting old town and a harbor that is still in use. While there, visitors can climb the 1,500 steps to the top of a fortress that overlooks the town for a breathtaking view. Many people use Kotor as their base as they explore the rest of the country.

2. Lovcen National Park and Njegos Mausoleum: Standing at 1,750 meters, Mt. Lovcen constitutes a focal point for this park, whose second-highest peak, Mt. Jezerski, features the Njegos Mausoleum. While individuals can drive most of the way to the top of the latter, they still must traverse the last several hundred feet on foot. Constructed of marble, the tomb is built into the side of the mountain, whose peak allows visitors to see up to 80 percent of the entire country on a clear day.

3. The Ostrog Monastery: The monastery is about a three-hour drive from Kotor, and guests can rent a car or take a tourist bus there. Built directly into the cliff about a kilometer up from the valley floor, the monastery is like a Balkan Petra.
