With the entry of Bulgaria into the European Union (2007), the Bulgarian became an official language of the Union of 28, and its alphabet, Cyrillic, one of three speech transcription systems in Europe. It is the basis of the Bulgarian language, EUROPEAN language since its inception; languages based on the Cyrillic alphabet have emerged in contact with other European languages based, they, on the Latin alphabet.
The exhibition Az Buki Alpha Beta intends to explore this interlinguistic link through the different perspectives of designers and graphic artists who interpret artistically the aesthetics and the coded messages of the Cyrillic alphabet.
Romanization of Bulgarian is the practice of transliteration of text in Bulgarian from its conventional Cyrillic orthography into the Latin alphabet. Romanization can be used for various purposes, such as rendering of proper names and place names in foreign-language contexts, or for informal writing of Bulgarian in environments where Cyrillic is not easily available. Official use of romanization by Bulgarian authorities is found, for instance, in identity documents and in road signage. Several different standards of transliteration exist, one of which was chosen and made mandatory for common use by the Bulgarian authorities in a law of 2009.

My entries were selected by the jury of the exhibition. It was organized by Culture Bulgare à Strasbourg and was held in the Conseil de l'Europe in Strasbourg, France.
The main idea behind my works was to develop one symbol, showing the original cyrillic letters via their official transliteration latin alternatives. All is one, you know :)
