The Markets of Scotland

The Markets of Scotland

I created this map as a gift for my dear mother after she bought a cottage in the Scottish Highlands. As I’m sure you can tell, she loves going to markets – farmers’ markets, flower markets, craft fairs, antique stores, you name it. I wanted to give her, and anybody visiting, an easy way to know where and when every market in Scotland takes place.

Each region of the country is coloured according to what day of the week and month the market is open, while black numbers show the location of the market and correspond to more detail below: name, location, hour of operation, and whether its indoor or outdoor and has food or not.

The result is spectacular, at 36 inches tall and 24 inches wide. Upon closer examination, it shows some neat patterns in how certain markets move around the country. You can view a spreadsheet of all my research here.
