Imperial HG Wells Alumni T-shirt

H.G. Wells, the father of science fiction, is an alumni of Imperial College London. He attended the Royal College of Science (one of the constituent colleges which later formed Imperial)  where he studied biology. During his time at Imperial he was one of the  founders of The Science School Journal, a school magazine that allowed him to express his views on literature and society.

We wanted to celebrate our connection to Mr Wells and create a special T-shirt highlighting four of his most famous works:
• The Time Machine ( (the first version was a short story “The Chronic Argonauts,” which he wrote for
the RCS student magazine in 1888 eventually expanding it to become The Time Machine).
• The Island of Doctor Moreau
• The Invisible Man
• The War of the Worlds

I wanted the art to have a strong graphic sci-fi/fantasy illustration with clean, bold lines and a simple two colour graphic treatment.  I worked with sci-fi illustrator Derek Stenning to develop the fantastical characters from these stories in a collage suitable for silkscreening. The inky depth, richness and expressive nature of his work transport the viewer into the stories.
