Designers Responsibility?
I participated for the memefest festival, which is a Socially Responsive Communication and Art Festival. It serves as a focal point for a critical take on the current media and communication environment. This year participants had to respond to the problem of debt. I wanted to focus on something more personal, and I believe as designers we are responsible for what we make. The best designers are the ones who think differently and find new ways of solving problems. We live in a world where we always want more. Adverts and new products tells us that we have to purchase these things to become happy, successful and likeable. To fund these purchases customers take out loans, which in many cases they are not able to pay off, leading them to staying in debt. We as designers create these desires, we all have a part to play. I created a poster (b&w for the environment) and a infographic inspired website which will contribute to the solution and help raise awareness of this issue.
