Thinking Keeping Exhibition/Workshop - Design Futures

The project 'Thinking Keeping' is a creative, practice based inquiry into the irreversible act of 'breaking in' to a sealed package. Breaking open a product's packaging reinforces the user's first experiences of owning the product, and strengthens perceptions of the product's newness, perfection and desirability.

Through creative methods we are subverting the experience of 'breaking the seal', by applying it to products that have already been owned and used. In this case the product in question would be a wedding ring from a previously failed relationship. During this project we (Ashley Granter & Dominic Wigg) had to use a varied range of materials, including some untraditional materials such as edible jelly.

The project was produced and organised by a collective group made up of Richard Evans, principle lecturer, Peter MacQueen, Senior designer, and Julia Keyte, Course leader for 3D design.
