Upcycled lamps for Heal's London

Utrem Lux  Up cycled lamps for Heals London

This interesting project was commissioned to me by Heal London: To create an elegant range of up cycled lamps made from  reclaimed materials.

In addition, it was required to make sure the lamps were simple and easy to be machinable and assembled in house in my studio. All components were designed by me on CAD (Solisworks)and manufactured by my Digital High speed CNC milling machine with the use of CAM system (NCG Cam).

After few weeks of preparation I manage to secure a collaborative relationship between my office and waste management companies to supply me with reclaimed African Sapele wood and lab bottles whic we then chopped and polished.
Boston Umber lab bottles gives the lamps a warm feeling/vintage like experience. Many costumers claimed they were drawn to these products because of the feeling they got looking at the shade and wood (warm) appearance.
My CNC milling machine system(Datron M8)  as seen below, allowed me to not only produce prototypes and make proof of concept tests on a daily basis, but also to become a small automated factory which could produce around 20 lamps per day.
This way I could deliver products in a fast pace while preparing other components to be made by subcontractors.
I used a 'hook' concept for attaching the shades to the lamps allowing the user to adjust the height of the shade by pulling the string to each direction.
Utrem Lux Lamps were exhibited as part of Heals lighting department and in total 450 lamps were sold.I have designed and made a core range of 7 different models but with similar family features which appeared in all off them.
The price of each lamp varied between 195GBP to 1450GBP.
Later on in this project i outsourced all post processing tasks like bottle chopping and polishing to spraying and assembling.
