Ralph McQuarrie
Ralph McQuarrie, a man who was around an even longer time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Wait, does that make this a prequel? All I know is that, without this amazing man, the Star Wars universe would not be the wondrous place it is today.
George Lucas asked McQuarrie to illustrate several scenes from the script of the original Star Wars film. In doing so, he ended up designing many of the films' main characters, including R2-D2, C3P0, Chewbacca and Darth Vader, as well as bringing many of the films' epic locations to life.
So, as a celebration of his work, I have created one of his original concepts for the little astro droid, R2-D2. The head is removable and you'll never guess what's inside, no... not Kenny Baker. Instead, inside is a collection of images displaying some of McQuarries work. Enjoy!
