1. RESEARCH

Select one of the paper craftsman below, and write to the following points. Write and show image examples.
• Who is he/she, what does he/she do?
•  What are the key features of his/her work?
• What impresses you about the craftsman or his/her work?
CARA BARER is a Fine Art Photographer who lives and works in Houston, Texas. She is a graduate of the Art Institute of Houston, the University of Houston and the Glassell School of Art. Living in technologically advanced world, books are getting less popular for getting information for research. Her work questions the future of the book itself. She realised that she owned too many books that have no used to her anymore. With that she start he experimentation to bring life to these old books.
The key features of her works is capturing photographs of outdated and abandoned books, then she transformed them into sculptural objects by coiling and crumbling them which give them an overall elegance look and dyeing them with different colours and then through the medium of photography presenting them anew as objects of beauty. Most of her books has been featured in various exhibitions across United States.

I am deeply impressed with the small details of the folds of each pages of her work. How she could create depth with the thin pages of each books. How different folds can be constructed and turn into a whole new master piece; something that I would never thought was done from an old book. I am also loving the different colours so add onto each of her work. The colours gave her works a different perception and gave life to her work.

I could not find any videos about how I could harden the pages and get them to stay in the shape I want. So I decided to experiment with the mod-podge glue, as it will be able to give me a clean finished touch. I also found out that by adding baby powder, I am able to create a thicker consistency when applying the glue.
folds are maked to create volume for each alternate pages.
