The brief of this project is about personal protection, which I had no clue what to make in the first place. But as I tried to map out all the possible ideas, tourist protection seemed like the best one to do. I thought about back home and South-East Asia in general, and started sketching potential products for this project. Detak is an Indonesian word that means beat as this whole project talks about heart beats.
South-East Asia is rich on culture and it's important to embrace it. Being one of the cheapest holiday destinations for western tourists, South-East Asia is perfect for this project.
So many things could go wrong when you're travelling, and it's in the case for yourself to be extremely careful of what you do, and the country to take responsibility if something does happen. Especially for western tourist, their bodies have to adapt to the country's climate and environment (if they wish to go somewhere with a completely different climate), and if their body failed to adapt, they could get easily ill and potentially ruin their holiday, which is a common thing to happen. Your heart rate could determine what's wrong with your body. It's very common to feel dizzy and faint when the temperature gets too hot, Your heart rate would increase and could have an abnormal beat. The symptoms and outcome may vary, either it's something you shouldn't be worried about, or something completly serious.
The final idea for the product is a chargeable heart rate monitor wristband that tells the local time. What makes this different from the others is the fact that it's got an interchangeable leather straps. The heart rate monitor it self is detachable, thus in case of emergency you could just place it on someone to read their heart rate. Tourists are encouraged to purchase the Detak wristband if they wish to stay in South-East Asia for three weeks or more when purchasing their travel insurance. People like to collect stamps in their passports, or just collect souvenirs from the countries they've visited. These leather straps act like that; each country in South-East Asia would have their own straps, each uniquely printed with their traditional prints, making this a personal collectible item for tourists. Tourist could easily learn something simple about the country's culture by using the wristband.
The Detak wristband comes with three compartments; A is the heart rate monitor itself, B is a metal piece which acts as the hear rate reader, it has contact with the skin which allows to detect the heart rate, C is the interchangeable leather strap. A and B are attached together, making the piece detachable.

Like any other health wristbands, Detak comes with an app that will manage your health. Detak wristband is made so simple for cheap manufacture, yet the user could easily control everything from their smart phones. The app is linked with the gps on the user's phone, which allows them to know the nearest hospital/clinic and emergency numbers. Other features like acting fast and symptom checker is essential if there is an emergency situation.
