The Kroraina (Loulan Kingdom) Series

The Kroraina Series ~ The Shepherdess
Kroraina (Loulan) was on the Silk Road in ancient China, and was an assemble country where east met west. I hope that the form of illustration captions of information symbols will show Kroraina people's lives and culture instead of the monotony of introductive script. The logo is constituted with "Loulan" of Chinese characters and malachite. There was a major river in Kroraina called "Peacock", and malachite can also be called as “Peacock Stone”, which has the meaning of happiness. About the series style, I mainly refered to and combined the characteristics of Chinese painting and murals of the day. I applied changes of line thickness to perform the distance relationship and maintained relatively cold tone using blue, green and red as the main color. What this picture shows is original fishing and farming industry of Kroraina and also the early clothing. " Loulan's belle " eristic has become the popular topic of archaeological bound and people once more, and the inspiration of the character came from a woman mummy called Xiaohe princess discovered there about 3800 years ago.
The Kroraina Series ~ The Silk Road
The theme of this work is the Silk Road, and developed commercial and social prosperity of Kroraina are inseparable from it. On the screen you can see the local characteristics of the landform, caravan, the main fruits, musical instruments, works of arts, the silk clothing of Han Dynasty, coins of Kushan Empire, the royal symbol of Kroraina and so on. In order to convey correct information as much as possible, I made reference to many relics and applied them into the piece. I think it a kind of fun to find them out one by one.
The Kroraina Series ~ Primping
In this piece, I mainly want to show rammed earth construction, luxurious palace life and war in the air of Kroraina. European style, Persian style, ancient Indian style and ancient Chinese style items can be seen in it, while the woman's headwear has the characteristics of the northern Xiongnu nomadic nation. This style of mixture was the characteristics of aristocratic life at that time. The top of the screen are painted with weapons, beacon towers and "Hun" in the ancient text, and the gesture of the woman looking far into the night sky conveys a kind of turbulent atmosphere commonly.
The Kroraina Series ~ Buddhism
In ancient times, religion was always playing an important role in people's spiritual world, so I drew a separate picture to perform the religion. Distinguished with the present Xinjiang Province, the state religion of Kroraina was Buddhism and impacted by other religions, so the Buddhism of Kroraina differed from that of China. To emphasize this distinction, I painted the figure’s hair into blue, with culture of Central Plains and Zoroastrianism elements mixed in the background. Screen at the top of the golden lotus petal patterns are symbols of Buddhism, which can also be found in other works in the this series.
The display of the Kroraina series
In order to make people enjoy Kroraina Culture more directly, I designed a series of exhibits of Kroraina. I printed the illustration on cotton to show the atmosphere of ancient times, and applying green, orange, blue and gold pins to fix them on boards, symbolizing the gold and precious stones. The show also includes three clay works, and two painted eggshells as the supplementary exhibits. Clay works are imitation of relics (wooden comb, Five baht money, wooden slip), and the eggs are depicted on the subject of the Kroraina series patterns.
