FMP- Week 2,3: Creative research

In the following week, I keep carring on the artist's reseach , however, in another particular side : Technology. In my point of view, " Futuristic" in fashion should be the combination between the new technology and material to create the inovative silhoutte, as the way Iris Van Herpen did in her lastest collection. Using laser-cutting in plastic to create the outter layer ( like an armour ), which is inspired by the structure of nuclear, numerator....The whole collection brought a sci-fi story with the scientiific elements , along with the using 3D garments' form based on the connection of the nuclears, which insired me about the 3D scuptural garment. Here is some images from her collection that I was quite impressed .
Then I started some simple textile samples based on the plastic nuclear dress from Iris Van Herpen, within these simple material as plastic cable , silver kitchen foil, flimsy iron fibre ...
From these simple samples as primary reseach, the ideal of making "futuristic" accesory came to me . The small accesory could be an easy beggining before starting doing a complex garment. So, I did a research about an Japanese artist , who had an impressive MA graduated collection at Central Saint Martins, Maiko Takeda. These images below was part of her outstanding accesories' collection :

With the ideal of out - of - the - space , like the astronaut's costume, or the rough moon's surface, I choose the silver kitchen foil to develope. After crumpled it up , put the cotton inside, and twisted it into a small ball. With the crunchy outter layer and the soft inside, I keep carrying on doing these sample in various size. In the final step I used the glue gun to stick it together in order to make a necklace like the photo below :

On the following step to develop this sample, I used magnets to connect the chain. However, there were some problems : the foil was too fragile and easy to tear off, while the magnets were too strong . For the temporary soIution,I had to stick a "protective layer" - transparent masking tape- around the 2 balls which had magnets, in order not to tear these apart again. After all, the chain was completed , but the visual look were not fine as I expected .

For these futher research, I did some textile pages on my sketchbook for the ideal of the Luna inspiration, with the metal iron flat which is cut into pieces, coins, iron pins...

OUTDOOR RESEARCH :

 - MANCHESTER ART GALLERY :
+ " THE IMMITATION GAME"  exhibition : Within the inspiration from machine, 3D technology , these artists contributed to the exhibition their modern technical art work as the machine sample, robots, 3D installation.... I found out some inpiration about electric diagram from these ones.

Following the electric diagram idea, I also focus on futher reseach on the way the fashion designer applied the technology on fashion . The amazing LED dress from Hussein Chalayan was the best example for the cooperation between Art/ Fashion and Technology. The outstanding dress was showed in AW show 2007. In fact, This LED dress consisting of 15,600 LEDS combined with crystal from Swarovski . In addition,
this crystal dress which will have lights behind the components, where the colour will go from neutral to a multicolour graphic composition representing the arrival of spring; the light mechanism will then change and start to glow like the sun, as a representation of the arrival of summer
