Montreux Jazz Festival 2016

After Effects

The Montreux Jazz Festival is a swiss music festival that takes place over 2 weeks anually in early July on the Lake Geneva shoreline. Since its foundation in 1967 by Claude Nobs, René Langel and Voumard, the festival has become a landmark event in the world of music, well known for its fantastic concerts, amazing artistic collaborations, rare moments, audacity and ambitious projects.

For its 50th edition to be held in July 1-16 2016, and in order to celebrate the 50 years of the festival, we created a line up video that not only features the artists names of this year edition, along with their artworks by Greg Léon Guillemin, but also highlights some of the most notable events of the festival since 1967, through a brief Montreux Jazz Festival retrospective, that reflects the great history of this amazing music festival.

Since the early years of the festival there was always a clear interest in recording, saving and archive all the content related to each edition’s performances. There is a huge archive compilation driven by one of his founder, Claude Nobs, that passed away in 2013.

We also wanted to make an homage to Claude Nobs and his efforts in keeping the history of Montreux Jazz Festival forever available, so we embraced the idea of the archives, representing Claude Nobs in his office room, where the whole scene takes place. In this room, full of references and memories of the festival’s past editions, the character revisits some newspaper clippings, personal notes, polaroids, and other music related objects like CD’s, cassettes and vinyls, where the line up 2016 artists are announced.
