Ulysses found the missing men, hosted by the Lotus Eaters and they doped with the lotus flower, a flower that takes away the memory and desires.
There seemed to have reached heaven, a chance to escape from the pain of a trip that did not offer more hope.
But that feeling of happiness was really just an illusion that covered the sadness in their hearts.
Ulysses, shooting them with them, bringing them back to reason, because he always burned the sense of duty and hope to bring back all at home.
