This book highlights the history of sign painting, and the remnants and resurgence of this art form in the Greater Toronto Area.
Hand painted signs from all over the city have been photographed and abstracted, using the classic colours sign painters have been using for years. A range of signage is shown in the book, with a special focus on the signs of Honest Ed's.
The book tells a story about the history of this form of commercial art, its fall from grace, and the recent resurgence in popularity it has been seeing. They are too often under appreciated and become part of our everyday lives, fading into the sea of digitally produced and temporary signage. This book aims to highlight the skill and artistry these signs can bring to our streets.
