Size Matters considers the notion of beauty cross culturally. As I learned about beauty standards from vastly different cultures a few things remain consistent as my investigation crossed the globe. There are expectations set for both men and women; however, mens changes are often in celebration of their strength and power, where the changes made to women's bodies left them maimed or inhibited.
We see the sunset every single day, it is not unique or different, and it is not something we would even consider modifying, yet we are able to stand and stare 365 days of the year and think to ourselves "isn't that beautiful". I question why we, as human beings from east to west, metropolitan to tribal, are unable to accept the human body as beautiful in its natural form.
The links between beauty, desirability and financial stability are a discussion for a different day.
