Khmsah Project: Intro

Meaning
The Hamsa Hand is an ancient Middle Eastern amulet symbolizing the Hand of God. It exists in Abrahamic religions under many names. The word “Hamsa” comes from the Hebrew word “Hamesh,” or the Arabic “Khmsah,” which means five and is a symbol for good luck.

Challenge
To find the perfect visual form of the Hamsa Hand. To bring it from ancient to modern without losing the meaning. A quick search on google will show that the Hamsa Hand is designed with very complex and busy layers of illustration. This is very confusing and unnecessary. Hamsa Hand can adapt to a modern transition by clarity and simplicity and remain meaningful.

Approach
The core of the project is to experiment with design and test the series in a wide range of formats and mediums. This series was designed to be effective on a wide range of materials, weather it is fabric, metal, paper, or any digital applications. The symbol and typography were constructed from equal circle grid to make the design more symmetrical and even.
