People would cut the feet off of the corpse before they buried them so the dead wouldn’t walk amongst the living.  If cutting the feet off some of the corpses wasn’t enough people also believed that the weight of a tombstone was enough to keep the spirit underground.  Hence why tombstones are usually big
Back in the olden days, it was believed if the deceased person lived a good life then natural flowers would grow around the grave.  However, if the deceased person lived a bad life then weeds or mold would grow on or around the persons grave.
If a women was buried in black she will come back and haunt the family.
This myth dates way back to Greek Mythology.  A coin was placed either over the eyes, in or around the mouth of the deceased to help pay their way across the river of styx to cross over into the after life
