My Passport's Heavy - Vlog Intro

Creative Direction

Core ideas I wanted to communicate included: international, active, exhilarating and "on the go". With only 7.5 seconds to play with, I wanted to take the viewer through Matthew's journey before coming to the pinnacle of his preparation. The first scene throws the viewer into his world, all of the conventional items he typically has with him are spilled on the table before us as we're taken upward to our flight, only to arrive at a world beyond a cliff that can only be truly appreciated in person.

To create this feeling of awe, sound design was extremely important. This is where the amazing team from Daruma Audio came in - by adding subtle environmental sound effects, they were able to effectively assist the viewer to transition between three scenes, giving them an almost "close to the real deal" experience. Paul Suite, my music composer, played a critical role in directing the mood of the visuals. In order to pull us away from the traditional survivalist theme, Suite was able to maintain a light-hearted tone throughout this active piece.
