Heroes of Metro City is a deck building game by 3Some Games, Inc. Eighteen (18) different illustrators were brought on to illustrate one or more of the game’s 60 different cards. Rachel was hired to create the illustration for the Origin Story card. All of the cards needed to mimic a comic book aesthetic. The Origin Story card, specifically, needed to feature a newspaper announcing a new super hero with an obscured image of a super hero.
As an avid board gamer and fan of deck building games, Rachel chose to back this game on Kickstarter in 2012. In September 2012, 3Some Games announced an art contest to collect submissions from backers for the Mafia Hitmen card. Rachel submitted an illustration of a "gangster" mafia crew, in which she made a conscious decision to steer away from the stereotypical “mafia” characters in order to stand out from other submissions. Rachel's illustration was not chosen for the Mafia Hitmen card. However, 3Some Games liked her artwork and aesthetic enough to hire Rachel to design the illustration for the Origin Story card.
