This was a project in which I was assigned to create an image on vynil and then apply it to a surface in the art department. I decided to go with the image of a surfer since going to UCSB we already live right next to the beach. I came up with the idea of the thunderclouds and lightning because I was actually working on this in the middle of a huge thunderstorm (by southern California standards). The birds were added since there are so many birds in the area and you can never go to the beach here without seeing quite a few birds flying around. The fish and the shark were both created to add some texture to the waves since they originally looked quite bare. When applying the vynil I decided to use a window instead of a wall. The reasoning being that the image was something that could be looked at from both sides and still appear natural, and because with the changing of time of day the feeling the image elicits in a viewer changes.
This is the original illustrator file befor I had it printed out on vynil and applied it to the window. I created everything using just the pen tool in adobe illustrator.
