Akzidenz-Grotesk | Poster

DESIGN RATIONALE
Akzidenz-Grotesk is one of the first sans-serif faces that was widely used and should be appreciated. This poster set was intended to be created as an advertisement for the typeface. It was meant to be treated alternatively as a concert poster for a band from the late 1960s, when the typeface was remastered. In that case, the imagery was taken from a 1960s magazine ad. The image itself does not allude to anything in particular, which is in keeping with the band poster styles of the time. The entire Akzidenz-Grotesk family, and only that family, is featured on the poster to show its potential. The interesting thing about the poster layout is that it can be placed in either order next to each other or with multiple posters lined up together side by side.
The poster looks great digitally or printed via woodblock with black, pink and yellow inks. The woodblock print has a handmade aesthetic, which ads to the nostalgia. The minor flaws and variations make it more unique and alludes to an underground setting. This poster would likely be seen posted in the streets, in alleys, subway corridors and so on.
A setlist, biography, dates, ticket information and location are what make up the concert information.
