By the competition for Greenland’s National Art Gallery as a point of departure, the program for the presented design proposal has been shaped to accommodate the needs of the Greenladinc society, a society that is undergoing fundamental changes in social and economic tradition. Therefore, the function of the proposal has been broadened to accommodate both the needs of the society, as well as the development plan of the municipality. The proposal shall thus house an art gallery and art hub, with the aim of promoting the local art movement.
At a preliminary phase, the group has sketched a number of proposal in order to understand the volumetric composition of the site.
The natural layout of the site accommodated the development of a narrative throughout the site. Therefore the conceptual approach towards the design has been to continue this generous narrative of the location.
In terms of volumetric studies, the design process has been looking at the most efficient shape in terms of energy, being alternatively rendered to fit the design parametres. Therefore, each facade carries out a different function: Shelter, movement, solar collection
