Rebar Chair (Experimental Project)

This design was inspired from the idea of solving circulation space problem. In big metropolitan cities, having very tight space is the biggest issue, everything is just too close between each other. Every normal chair needs circulation space around it. This problem inspired me to create a leaning chair, which allow people to have different kind of furniture in a tight a space. The idea of converting this lounge chair into a stool is gives great flexibility for the user to use this chair however they want.
The unique feature, this lounge chair does not need circulation space behind it (when leaning onto walls), which saves a lot of space. When there is no walls around, this chair can be converted into a stool, by rotating the chair back 180 degree, which becomes the other 2 legs.
 
By having a 360-degree rotatable axis that is attached to the back part of the seat, this the chair back can be rotated upside down, transforming a 4-legged stool.
The structure is bent rebars, with concrete poured as the rectangle-shaped seat. The concrete is covered by white carrera marble on every side, giving a total different impression to the actual structure material (rebar and concrete). The rebar is also chromed to match the luxurious look of the white carrera marble. With only rebars and concrete as the basic structure, this chair is not only sophisticated looking, but also sustainable in the same time. Every rebar has rubber-end caps on its two ends, to prevent the chair from moving when leaning onto walls. The two rebars is connected and tighten by stainless steel cable running tight in between.
