Inhabitable bridge for the Nottingham Canal

BArch (Hons) Architecture Year 2 Studio Project 1 of 3, Nottingham Trent University

The brief for this project was to create an inhabitable bridge for the canal that passes through Nottingham, meaning there needed to be some interior spaces as well as a connection from one side to the other.

I chose to design my bridge for the inhabitants of Graystacks student accommodation, creating a shared study space, social space and outdoor gardens. This came from analysis of connectivity that the building had with its surroundings, and I found that for them to get to the canal towpath it would require a very pedestrian-unfriendly route over a bridge primarily for vehicular use.
