Abandoned in Corrales

Abandoned in the village of Corrales, New Mexico

The village of Corrales is just south of Albuquerque and is a classic rural New Mexico town with fantastic southwest architecture mixed with small farms and vineyards. Due to the fact it is a small and quaint town just outside of the big city of Albuquerque, most people would love to live there. Because of this, naturally a lot of wealthy folks have bought up most of the land and the property values are pretty outrageous. There is still a fair share of pre high property value homes scattered around that have not been renovated or bulldozed. One such home is the one I have showcased below. I have shot this house a few times over the past 5 years.

There is something special to me about an abandoned house, more than any other abandoned structure or building. Approaching a house like this, I like to imagine it new, and at some point in time, was somebody's pride and joy. They had their first meal there at the kitchen table. They decorated the yard for holidays and washed the windows on a Saturday morning. They probably sat on the front porch and had their morning coffee, or possibly talked with the neighbor about the town gossip. It was a place where somebody came home to at the end of a hard day and relaxed. It is now just a shell torn apart by the wind and seasons. The window latches and door hinges rusted and the windows busted. You can see the adobe walls filled with mud. I bet this place was once amazing!
