#God. Interactive Installation

"Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain"
#God is an interactive installation. It explores how our constant access to technology affects our perception of religion and sanctity.

Not being a religious man, I focused on the data. A screen displays every mention of #God on Twitter in real-time.
With every new tweet, light emanates from a bell hanging above, bathing the reader in its heavenly light.
As it turns out, this happens on average every 2 seconds.
The brightness and duration of the light directly relates to the exposure of peoples use of "#God". The more followers the preacher has, the brighter the light and the longer it shines.
The light emanates from a minimalist, 3D printed church bell that hangs in the space directly above the screen.
#God was created specifically for the exhibition:
Conceived without Sin. Radiator Arts, NY, 2015

Most recently exhibited at RAW - Young Artist Initiative, as part of Art Basel, 2017.
Crowdfunded vía GoFundMe.
Thank you to all the backers who supported the project.
Using Raspberry Pi and various electronics. Custom code developed in Python (with help, thanks Geoff!), using Twitter API.
