STRANGERS In PARADISE - Baltimore - volume II

Shakir Alousi - is an Iraqi painter with an extraordinary eye for folklore and Arabic art that is depicted in each art piece he works on...
A wonderful mix of Orientalism and abstractism.
His studio and every ornament in it has an amazing story to tell...
He tells us about his upbringing and his love for the art of painting.
Most of his paintings reflect the life and colors of the Arabic world.
I look over his shoulder and I notice how the characters from his paintings are tuning in on our conversation and continue to listen with great interest.

I ask Shakir: " WHAT DO YOU SEE WHEN YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES?"

"Hmmm.....?" Let me think.... no one ever asked me this question before....."

"I SEE COLORS" - he replies

COLORS everywhere....  and these colors in Shakir's work spring joy and resonate the soul of his culture and the love for his people.

This is how he describes his art in one of his booklets:

- " I use traditional architectural aspects and symbols in a novel way to present the folklore in a more modern context. I attempt to use earth tones as a basis for visual canvas, and sometimes layering it with contradicting colors such as black and blue in their various degrees and hues."
