This is the photograph series that I did for my mid-term project. The aim of the project was to observe and understand the overall atmosphere and the differences between morning and evening hours of nearby neighborhoods in Istanbul, Turkey. To accomplish that, I went for populated spots. While shooting, I also recorded the ambient noises around me. These photographs and recordings consist of four places;

Tophane, Karaköy, Eminönü and Cibali.

I divided the project into two parts; Day (part one) and Night (part two). I started shooting and recording at exactly 8:00 AM, while using a tripod and a blue marker to designate my tripod locations and camera angles. The beauty of this is you have to walk all the way to the final location, otherwise it will be hard to find good spots to park on. Part one is concluded around 11:42 AM, so I went back home.

Shooting and recording of part two started at exactly 8:00 PM, this time I searched for my marker lines around the locations. They were pretty hard to find since it rained all afternoon. Somehow I pretty much nailed the camera angles and locations. Shooting at night time was challenging since there were a lot of cars, trams and people around me. Walking around at night, some of the places are pretty dead empty, although the noises never abandon you in Istanbul. I packed my stuff around 11:54 PM. At the end I got tired a bit, since I walked 8 kilometers in a single day- but the final result of the project was well worth it.
