Hand - crafting projects

Probably inherited from my father, I have built up a strong love for hand crafting since I was a little kid. During my time in design school, I had a chance to explore more crafting techniques and got to practice and improve my skills through making models for school.

I enjoy spending a lot of time looking for the right materials and I pay extra attention to details as well as the precise scale of the models.

This is my first house model I made for “Commercial Model Making” class.

In this project, we were assigned to redesign an existing floor plan. It was originally the floor plan of two classrooms at school but we had to turn it into a single apartment based on individual taste and build a detailed house model at scale 1:25.

I redesigned the layout to make a single bedroom apartment with a Mediterranean / European style.
I chose earth tones and neutral warm colors to make the living space feel cozy.
I used foam boards, wooden pieces and clay to make the brick and stone wall. Then the details were added using all kinds of trinkets like vehicle screws and clothes pins. Then most elements were hand painted using watercolor and markers.
The brief for this school project was to use an existing living room and redesign it in order to meet an assigned client’s need.

My assigned client was a 24-year-old female office worker. She is an introvert who loves reading and playing piano which she inherited from her grandparents.

I love hand drawing almost as much as I love hand crafting. Even though we have all kinds of software applications to do the job, I still enjoy working with paper and coloring mediums the most.

The task was to create a usable retail space using cargo containers. It was key to keep the container structure and its ability to close down into a contained safe space.

The result had to be several hand rendered perspective views or the space.

I love the extra time and effort that handcrafted models take. In this kind of work, every little effort counts and the work itself expresses it’s soul.
My aim was to create an escape from the noise and chaos of Ho Chi Minh City so customers would be able to enjoy a natural, peaceful and well designed environment.

It’s a place meant for designers and freelancers, who would be away from all kinds of distractions so they can  focus on their creativity.
