The Soldier's Tale visualisations

We were commissioned by Teatr Śląski and NOSPR to design scenography and visualisations for a theatre play by Igor Stravinsky "The Soldier's Tale". It is a theatrical work "to be read, played, and danced". The world premiere was held in 1918 – more or less during the times of cubism. Together with the director, Robert Talarczyk, we created a modern interpretation of the play, and decided to work with pixels, as cubes, to refer to the times when it was created.
We collaborated with Prof. Ewa Satalecka.

The final outcome for the 1-hour long play consisted of around 130 animated loops projected on 14 meter high wall behind the stage. Some of them were abstract, some as a literal visualisation of spoken words, and some animations were referring to retro games, such as "pac-man" or "pong". Each frame was drawn separetly and most of the animations start and end with one pixel.
