People have been telling stories for as long as we’ve been around. For a long time these stories were passed on verbally through storytelling, then a wonderful thing happened, people started drawing.
I have chosen storybook illustration as my topic for this research project, because as a child I remember dreading the day I would have to graduate from reading books from the “children’s section” of our local library and start reading books which seemed unimaginative and boring, because of their lack of illustrations.
In this research project I plan on exploring the history of storytelling through illustration as well as zooming in on both children’s book and adult book illustration, because picture books aren’t just for children anymore.
